I’m Convinced This Is How Bachelor In Paradise Can Make A Major Comeback (The One Thing It Needs To Stop) (2024)

Summary

  • Bachelor in Paradise could make a comeback if producers stop interfering and allow natural relationships to develop.
  • Bachelor in Paradise season 7 was the most successful, leading to many lasting relationships and marriages among contestants.
  • Bachelor in Paradise seasons 8 and 9 had too much producer manipulation.

Bachelor in Paradise isn't on ABC's summer or fall schedule, but I'm convinced that it could make a comeback if the producers stop interfering with the show. Bachelor in Paradise has been the most successful franchise show, leading to many lasting relationships, engagements, and marriages over the years. Bachelor in Paradise season 7 was the most successful, leading to several couples. Serena Pitt and Joe Amabile, Mari Pepin and Kenny Braasch, and Becca Kufrin and Thomas Jacobs have all gotten married. Abigail Heringer and Noah Erb left in a relationship and are now engaged. The same is true of Alana Milne and Chris Conran.

Bachelor in Paradise has also lead to the marriages of season 6 couple Caelynn Miller-Keyes and Dean Unglert, who now use the last name Bell, season 6's Hannah Godwin and Dylan Barbour, season 5's Astrid Loch and Kevin Wendt, season 4's Raven Gates and Adam Gottschalk, season 2's Ashley Iaconetti and Jared Haibon, and season 2's Jade Roper and Tanner Tolbert. However, none of the couples from Bachelor in Paradise season 8 or 9 have stayed together, whether they were engaged or left as couples. I believe the reason for this might be that the producers interfered too much, but, if they stop, I think that Bachelor in Paradise could return to its former glory.

Bachelor In Paradise Season 9 Producer Manipulation Ruined Relationships

The Producers Put The Contestants In Challenging Situations

During Bachelor in Paradise season 9, bartender Wells Adams introduced the Paradise Truth Box early in the season. He explained that contestants could write anonymous messages and place them in the box to be read later. Messages about Kat Izzo being manipulative during her relationship with Brayden Bowers led to a blowout fight between her and Aaron Schwartzman, who she suspected wrote them. I found it so hard to watch grown men and women arguing about what was the equivalent of passing notes in a middle school classroom.

Later in the season, I cringed as the Paradise Truth Box returned, this time targeting Tyler Norris, but hurting Mercedes Northup in the process. One message said, "Tyler, everyone knows you're not that into Mercedes. You better come clean 'cause she deserves the truth." Tyler was unbothered by the message, but Mercedes was understandably concerned. They eventually broke up.

In addition to the Paradise Truth Box, Hannah Brown hosted a Burning Questions Bonfire, in which the contestants were forced to answer questions about each other in front of each other. Feelings were hurt publicly, and I found it very difficult to watch. It was beneath the contestants.

However, the worst Bachelor in Paradise moments came during Katie Thurston's Comedy Roast, during which the contestants mocked each other. While some of the jokes were funny, there were a few that were just plain mean. I couldn't imagine standing up in front of people and insulting them, but the contestants seemed almost eager to do it. Some of them even acted very out of character, which made me feel as though they were being told what to say by the producers.

For some reason, Tyler felt the need to publicly embarrass Mercedes again with the comment, "Mercedes thinks she's a Mercedes. But she's more like a [expletive]." In addition, Aaron Bryant added that Tyler was more committed to getting his ear pierced than in his last two weeks with Mercedes. I was shocked that sweet Tyler would behave this way, and I felt that perhaps he was encouraged to do it by the producers.

Even worse, after Rachel Recchia and Tanner Courtad's heartfelt conversation about trying to make their relationship work, he insulted her. The usually very kind Tanner said, "We were all really, really excited when we found out that there was gonna be an ex-Bachelorette on the beach, and obviously we were really hoping for Gabby, but we got Rachel." Rachel was very upset by this, and I sadly thought back to her Bachelorette season when she and Gabby were competing against each other.

Bachelor in Paradise season 9 had a lot of unnecessary drama that was created by these ridiculous situations forced on the contestants by the producers. People in their 20s and 30s were reduced to acting like middle schoolers as they participated in games that were all about creating drama instead of relationships. Time was wasted on these events, rather than allowing the contestants to spend the short amount of time that they had together getting to know each other. The Bachelor in Paradise producers ruined the show, and it's no wonder that now it seems to be canceled.

Bachelor In Paradise Season 8 Producer Interference Made The Dating Show More Like A Game Show

The Split House Twist Destroyed The Integrity Of The Show

Bachelor in Paradise season 8 was also hurt by producer interference. I really despised watching the Split House twist, during which the couples were separated from each other. It was one of the worst moves in the history of the show. It was meant to put couples to the test, but all it really did was separate people who were just getting to know each other, and prevent them from building their relationships before getting engaged. Bachelor in Paradise season 8 suddenly felt less like a dating show and more like a game show, in which the contestants had to come up with strategies to stay in the competition.

Bachelor In Paradise Season 7 Was More Natural

The Couples Were Left Alone To Get To Know Each Other

While the Bachelor in Paradise producers might've thought that season 7 was boring, they were completely wrong. I loved watching couples such as Joe and Serena getting to know each other. They spent most of their time drama-free by the pool, talking, kissing, and just having a good time. I enjoyed watching them build their relationship from the start, and it's been so wonderful to see them leave the show engaged and eventually get married. There was nothing boring about watching two people who were meant-to-be fall in love. That's what Bachelor in Paradise is really about.

Bachelor in Paradise is my favorite show in the Bachelor franchise, and I'm very sad that it seems that it's not going to be coming back any time soon. Hopefully, it'll just be on hiatus, and then return again in the future. I hope that the producers realize that they were the ones that ruined the integrity of the show by manipulating situations and creating drama when they didn't need it. I was so disappointed that the latest couples broke up, but I wasn't surprised because they didn't have the chance to really get to know each other before they got engaged or left the show as couples. I hope that Bachelor in Paradise eventually returns, and the producers allow the contestants to find their happily-ever-afters without their interference.

The Bachelorette season 21 starring Jenn Tran premieres on Monday, July 8 at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.
