Still More Random Artifact Tweak Ideas (2024)

As per Pure's request, I'm going over the artifact list.

Yeah, again. >_> This'll be more for interesting changes than direct upgrades.

-The Warped Boots.

These boots suffer strongly from both being nearly identical-despite moderately different thematics-to the Scorched Boots, and from being simply not that good by any standards, including ego boot standards. Warped Boots are better than Scorched Boots, in general, but have one added downside. That's basically it.

Suggestion: These feel like a good place to have high end "durability" boots, rather than damage or mobility(the most common boot theme) boots. +100 HP, +10% Blight resistance, +10 Mind/Spell Save and removal of the Blight damage bonus. And possibly lowering or removing the Spellpower/Spellcrit bonuses. This makes them sort of a lesser/more interesting version of how high end randart boots tend to end up, pure durability with some incidental bonuses. That seems like a good change.

-Scorched Boots.

See the above, except that they're even worse. In fact, Scorched Boots have very little on high end Scholar ego boots, unless you really like that blight damage bonus.

Suggestion: +15% Fire/Darkness damage bonuses, +13 Physical Power, +10% physical/spellcrit, add L4 Poison Storm ability(30 out of 40 power).

-Crown of Command.

Kinda dull as mud, not really as good as other headgear at the same period.

Suggestion: +5 Mindpower, Indomitable L1 taking 60 power of 60, and Halfling specific bonuses of an additional +10 Will and +0.2 Halfling category "You feel you understand your race better...and how to better crush those that oppose it.". (It's rather Halfling themed as an artifact, if you look, and it's an interesting theme overall.)

-Gloves of the Firm Hand.

Fairly bad for non-Brawlers. Fairly bad for Brawlers right now, too, but I covered that in another thread.

Suggestion: Grant 30% Stun resistance. It's thematic and decently good.

-Voice of Telos.

Still pretty dull. It sorta functions, but it's worse than Telos Top or Tarelion, and only barely better than some of the mid-late staffs that have popped up.

Suggestion: Well, it's a weaker, less specifically themed version of the Spire of Power. My suggestion would be to give it affinity to either the same elements that the Spire of Power has, or just to all magical elements, in the 5-10% range.

-Cuirass of the Thronesman.

This could use a Dwarf bonus. It also could use a bit less Healing Modifier negative.

Suggestion: +100 to +200 HP for Dwarves(not sure on the proper amount) and -30% Healing Modifier instead of -40%.

-Sword of Potential Futures.

Is generally a bit weak overall, relative to the point in time. The set bonus doesn't quite salvage it. And it's pretty specifically oriented.

Suggestion: Remove the negative physical damage penalty, add +5 Spellpower, +5% Spellcrit and lower the swing speed to 90%, instead of 100%. On set completion, gain an additional +10% physical damage, in addition to the normal set bonus. Convert damage 30% to Temporal damage.

-Dagger of the Past.

Same as Potential Futures, pretty much.

Suggestion: Remove the negative physical damage penalty, add +10 Spellsave, +10 Defense, and +20% Movement Speed, and lower the swing speed to 90%, instead of 100%. On set completion, gain an additional +10% Temporal damage, in addition to the normal set bonus. Convert damage 30% to Temporal damage.

-Witch's Bane.

Not bad, per se, but it's surprisingly low damage. It really should hurt enemies a bit more-AM is already a heavily defensive skillset.

Suggestion: Double the critical rate, to 20%. It's more interesting as a crit heavy sword, and it fits somehow.

-Quiver of Domination.

The effect doesn't really kick on much. The arrow has to hit, has to pass a 40% chance, and has to pass a Mindsave vs your Mindpower(which is probably low) attempt.

Suggestion: Make it always attempt to apply the domination. Its low quiver size and the fact that it can't hit anything Instant Kill immune, combined with the Mindpower check, means it'll be fairly reasonable with this.

-Hornet Stingers.

Kinda low capacity. This would make a great spot for a nice, decent capacity earlygame quiver. The original idea had rather low arrows because it was going to be pinning poison, but that was too good anyways.

Suggestion: 12 capacity.

-Shard of Insanity.

Used to be pretty good, but nerfs to Inner Demons has made it much less standout.

Suggestion: Raise the Inner Demons level to 3, have it cost 30 power out of 30.

-Spectral Blade.

Kinda dull. Good spot to put some Arcane Blade oriented bonuses.

Suggestion: +5 Spellpower, +.5 Mana Regeneration.

-Crystle's Astral Bindings.

My bad. I suggested Destabilize for these, and it turned out that people miss the potential explosion and hurt themselves with the gloves, making them instantly disliked.

Suggestion: Replace Destabilize with Dust to Dust, at the same level/odds.

-Tree of Life.

A little boring, neat but ultimately minor effect aside. Is also missing an obvious thing it really should have.

Suggestion: +20% Healing Modifier.

-Whip of Urh'rok.

Perfectly good...just not to actually wield. It actually knocks back enemies-which is neat for thematic, but bad for wielding-and does nowhere near enough damage to justify this.

Suggestion: Raise Damage to 55(This does make it one of the best offhand weapons in the game, but it's Exotic after all), and have it deal on-hit Bone Grasp(20%, L3) and Blood Boil(15%, L3). Have it add an additional +15 Spellpower, and +20% Blight/Fire damage, while equipped. This should make it appeal to a strange variety of characters, though it's still probably not all that incredible.

-Crown of the Elements.

A little weak relative to many later hats. Mostly only really good if a physical fighter picks it up, which is weird because it has no theme orientation.

Suggestion: +10% damage for the four elements it is oriented towards as well. Makes it more of a general damage/mage hat.

-Void Orb.

Good for the target, lackluster for mages in general.

Suggestion: On_hit(spell) Arcane Vortex, L2/10%.

Edit: Wait, can the explosion on Arcane Vortex self-damage? I haven't messed with the skill much.

If it can, I would suggest something like Manathrust L2 or L3 instead.

-Telos Bottom Half.

A unique, interesting chunk of a stick that...never, ever gets used because it's cleanly worse than Life Drinker and Lunar Shield.

Suggestion: Let's crib more from the thematics of the Spire of Power. +15 Spellcrit, +30% Critical Modifier, +20% confusion resistance and +8 Damage Resonance would make this more competitive, and all make those elements showing up on the combined Spire make more sense.

Thematic tweaks:

-Nature's Vengance.

Nothing particularly wrong with it, but it has no AM bonus.

Suggestion: +4% All Resistance when wielded by an AM user. It makes it like a Nature ego weapon. Still More Random Artifact Tweak Ideas (1)

-Penitence.

No issue. But it could have a Shalore oriented bonus, given the description.

Suggestion: Have it grant Shalore 50% Disease resistance and 10% Blight resistance.

-Thaloren Tree-Bow.

No issue. But it could have a Thalore bonus.

Suggestion: +12 Defense, +20% nature resistance, +20% darkness resistance. "You feel the will of the forests defending you!"

-Corpsebow.

No issue. But it could have an undead bonus.

Suggestion: +20 Lifedrain range project. "You feel a strange affinity for this weapon..."

-Spellblade.

No issue. But it could have an Archmage specific bonus. :3

Suggestion: +0.2 to all five upper tier elemental schools, +1.00 Mana Regeneration and +20 Strength/Dexterity when wielded by an Archmage, as well as physical on-hit L5 Flame spells(20% of the time). "You feel the might of Varil attune with you!"

-Helm of Dwarven Emperors.

No issue. But bla bla Dwarven bonus.

Suggestion: +5 Will/Magic/Cunning for Dwarves. This makes it a weird long term option for specific, odd dwarven combos. Feels perfect.

-Orc Feller.

No issue, bla bla, Halfling bonus. (It's specifically listed as being used by a Halfling to massacre a hundred Orcs.)

Suggestion: +15% damage vs Humanoids when wielded by a Halfling.

-Rope Belt of the Thaloren.

No issue, but this is one of the weirdest equips to lack a racial bonus.

Suggestion: +15 Mindsave, +20% Mind resistance for Thalore.

-Skin of the Many.

Undead bonus.

Suggestion: Negate the normal stealth penalty and gain +30% Confusion/Fear resistance. "The skin whispers pleasantly to a kindred soul."

-Nature's Blessing.

AM bonus.

Suggestion: +20 Spell Save.

-Scepter of the Archlich.

Undead bonus.

Suggestion: Have it grant the same bonuses to any Undead race as well as Liches.

-Oozing Heart.

AM bonus.

Suggestion: +40 Manaburn on hits, deal 20 Manaburn when you are hit.

-Guardian Totem.

AM bonus.

Suggestion: Melee on hit Silence(10%).

-Thalore Wood Cuirass.

Thalore bonus.

Suggestion: Lower its fatigue to 0 for Thalore.

I think that's it. Wow, this ended up longer than I expected. Then again, many of these are less changes to artifacts to make them good, and more changes to expand their niche or make them more interesting. Kinda low priority, as such-Artifacts are getting really balanced out. Still More Random Artifact Tweak Ideas (2)
